Dubai – A getaway to luxury

photo of dubai

Dubai is the second city in the United Arab Emirates it is based on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, and is the most populated in the UAE.

Dubai is one of the seven cities in the UAE  and boasts total luxury with the tallest building in the world Burj Khalifa which stands at around  830 meters tall and it dominates the Dubai Skyline and drafts the other skyscrapers at the foot of this spectacular building is the Dubai Fountain with jet of water dancing to a light show choreographed to music.

Dubai has emerged as a global city and business hub of the middle east, before oil started to flow in 1969 Dubai relied on cargo trade as part of it’s main revenue the oil revenue helped Dubai to build the city it is today.

As oil supplies are very low Dubai only takes about 5% of it’s revenue from the black gold, now Dubai is a very prominent tourist attraction where a lot of British visit for a quick winter break as it is only 6 or 7 hours from the United Kingdom, however some Brits treat Dubai like an extension to Ibiza which is a  certain no no as the law in Dubai is very strict especially where alcohol and indecency in concerned, if you visit Dubai and find yourself on the wrong side of the law then it is your fault and i would have no sympathy for you.

As Dubai sits in the middle of the desert there is no problem for expansion and you can clearly see this when you turn a corner, you will some kind of construction taking place, I’ve been here four times and i can honestly say amongst the impressive skyscrapers there is always cranes jutting  into the sky, it will be nice one day the government will put a stop on expansion as this is a most impressive city blighted with constant construction.

With expansion comes transportation, Dubai have a great metro system but there are traffic jams all day and every day which is a complete pain in the rear end, having said that don’t let me put you off visiting Dubai because if you have not been there yet then i recommend a short break especially if you want to escape the British winter, temperature are in the range of 26 – 30 degrees most days and there is a nice cool breeze at night.

What to do when your in Dubai, well top of the list and it is not too costly is to experience a 4×4 desert safari this is exciting being driven over sand dunes at speed you will love it as long as you have the stomach for it.

Then of course a visit to Burj Khalifa to take in the awesome view from a advantage point, Then there is the new Dubai Canal which is a nice stroll along the canal side.

Head to Jumeriah and take a look at the Burj Al Arab which is the most luxurious hotel in the world, the only one with a seven star rating, which they gave them selves then take a swim at Kites Beach just a few minutes walk from Burj Al Arab.

Flights from the United Kingdom vary but you should get one for £350 and it is well worth the visit, with continuous sunshine plenty of things to do Dubai is surely a gateway to luxury.
